Kaba Modern
Kaba Modern is a dance group originating in Irvine, California. Kaba Modern is a spin-off of the University of California, Irvine Filipino cultural club, Kababayan, which means "countrymen" in Tagalog. Created by Arnel Calvario in 1992, Kaba Modern began as dancers that performed the hip-hop portion or the "Modern Suite" of Kababayan's annual Pilipino Cultural Night (PCN) at UCI. Since then, Kaba Modern has entered multinational competitions and gained recognition in the media. For instance, a few Kaba Modern members helped choreograph the "dance battle" scene in '' The Debut'' in 1997 while three members were shown onscreen during the Making of Featurette of the DVD. Kabah (Maya Site)
Kabah (also spelled Kabaah, Kabáh, Kahbah and Kaba) is a Maya archaeological site in the Puuc region of western Yucatan, south of Mérida. Kabah is south of Uxmal, connected to that site by an long raised causeway wide with monumental arches at each end. Kabah is the second largest ruin of the Puuc region after Uxmal. The site is on Fed. 261, approximately south from Mérida, Yucatán, towards Campeche, Campeche, and is a popular tourism destination. Alpha Kaba (born 29 January 1996) is a French-Guinean professional basketball player for Budućnost VOLI in the Prva A Liga and the ABA League. He plays for the Guinea national basketball team. Mariame Kaba is an American activist, grassroots organizer, and educator who advocates for the abolition of the prison industrial complex, including all police. She is the author of ''We Do This 'Til We Free Us'' (2021). The Mariame Kaba Papers are held by the Chicago Public Library Special Collections. Early life and education Mariame Kaba was born in New York City to immigrant parents. Her mother immigrated from the Ivory Coast; her father was involved in the independence struggle in Guinea. Mariame grew up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and attended Lycée Français. As a child, she viewed the world through a black nationalist framework and looked for ways to help others. Battle Of Kaba
The Battle of Kaba was fought at Kaba, Fiji, in 1855 between self proclaimed Fijian Tui Viti (King) Cakobau and his enemies from Rewa and Bau. In 1853, Cokobau had previously attempted to take the rebel positions at Kaba, in which he was brutally defeated. This time though Cakobau was supported by a strong fleet from Tonga, sent by Tu'i Tonga (King) Taufa'ahau (George I) of Tonga and Enele Ma'afu, governor of the Tongan population in Fiji. The battle was a major victory for Cakobau, thanks mainly to his Tongan allies, and cemented his leadership over Fiji. It also, however, underlined his dependency on the military power of Tonga, especially since Ma'afu remained in Fiji. Battle Ratu Mara and his men took up position on the promontories of the small town of Kaba. Cakobau and his alliance pushed into the town during the early hours of the 7th of April.
