John Dorge
John Dorge (born 17 October 1962 in Toowoomba, Queensland) is a former basketball player from Australia. Dorge played in Australia's National Basketball League (NBL) from 1985 to 1998, playing for the Brisbane Bullets, Geelong Supercats and the South East Melbourne Magic, winning four NBL championships as well as representing Australia in international competition. NBL career John Dorge also known as the "towering chicken farmer", a tall centre, started his NBL career in 1985 playing for the Brian Kerle coached Brisbane Bullets. The Bullets, beaten Grand Finalists in 1984, would go one better in Dorge's rookie season when they defeated the Adelaide 36ers 121–95 to win the clubs first NBL championship. The center (C), or the centre, also known as the five, the big or the pivot, is one of the five Basketball position, positions in a regulation basketball game. Cal Bruton
Calvin Thomas Bruton, (born 29 September 1954) is an American-born Australian former professional basketball player and coach. He has been an integral part of the National Basketball League (NBL) since its inception. Bruton won an NBL championship with the Brisbane Bullets in 1985, was a two-time member of the All-NBL First Team while playing for the Geelong Supercats and was named NBL Coach of the Year while he was a player-coach for the Supercats in 1982. He also won a second NBL championship while coaching the Perth Wildcats in 1990. As a result, Bruton became one of the first inductees into the NBL Hall of Fame when it opened in 1998. Perth Wildcats
The Perth Wildcats are an Australian professional basketball team based in Perth, Western Australia. The Wildcats compete in the National Basketball League (Australia), National Basketball League (NBL) and play their home games at Perth Arena, RAC Arena, known colloquially as "The Jungle". After three years of strong lobbying to the NBL, the creation of a national basketball team in Perth finally occurred in 1982. The Westate Wildcats were established and played out of the 800-seat Perry Lakes Basketball Stadium. Bill Jones (basketball, Born 1958)
William Lawrence Jones (born September 26, 1958) is an American former professional basketball player. He played the majority of his professional career in Australia's National Basketball League (NBL) from 1985 until 1992. Early life Bill Jones, a centre, was born and raised in Joliet, Illinois and attended Joliet Central High School where he was named to the All-Conference team and received an All-State honorable mention. After graduating in 1976, Jones attended the University of Northern Iowa from 1977 to 1981. Jones entered into the 1981 NBA Draft, but went undrafted. Apollo Stadium
Apollo Stadium (officially called the Apollo Entertainment Centre) was a multi-purpose indoor arena located at 41 Kingston Avenue, Richmond, South Australia, just 5 minutes from the Adelaide city centre. The stadium had an original seating capacity of 4,000 until the early 1980s when the bench seats were replaced by individual plastic seats giving a reduced seating capacity of 3,000 and an overall capacity of just 3,500. Opened in 1969, the stadium was named for the Apollo Moon landing of the same year. During the mid-late 1980s, an increasing number of international music acts began to bypass Adelaide as Apollo was seen as too small. Overtime (sports)
Overtime (OT) or extra time (ET) is an additional period of play to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. In some sports, this extra period is played only if the game is required to have a clear winner, as in single-elimination tournaments where only one team or players can advance to the next round or win the tournament and replays are not allowed. The rules of overtime or extra time vary between sports and even different competitions. Some may employ " sudden death", where the first player or team who scores immediately wins the game. Brisbane Entertainment Centre
The Brisbane Entertainment Centre is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in the City of Brisbane, central part of Brisbane, Australia. The centre is managed by SMG (property management), ASM Global. The centre also houses a sporting complex and small function rooms which are available to hire for wedding reception and business functions. Chandler Arena
The Chandler Arena (formerly the Sleeman Sports Centre) is an indoor sports venue, located in the suburb of Chandler in Brisbane, Queensland. It has a seating capacity of 2,700, and hosts netball, basketball, indoor soccer, badminton and volleyball. The Sleeman Sports Complex, of which the Chandler Arena is a part, was purpose-built for the 1982 Commonwealth Games which were staged in Brisbane. Since then the centre has hosted a range of sporting events including the 1994 World Masters Games and the 2001 Goodwill Games swimming, diving and cycling events.
