''Janet'' (stylized as ''janet.'') is the fifth studio album by American singer Janet Jackson, released on May 18, 1993, by Virgin Records America. Prior to its release, Jackson was at the center of a high-profile bidding war over her recording contract. In 1991, her original label A&M sought to renew her contract, while others, such as Atlantic, Capitol, and Virgin all vied to sign her. After meeting with Virgin owner Richard Branson, she signed with the label. The contract was worth an estimated $40 million, making her the world's then-highest paid musical act. Criticism that her success in the music industry was attributed to being a member of the Jackson family and a producer-dependent artist led her to write all lyrics for the album, in addition to co-producing every song and co-writing each of their arrangements with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Pierre Janet
Pierre Marie Félix Janet (; 30 May 1859 – 24 February 1947) was a pioneering French psychologist, physician, philosopher, and psychotherapist in the field of dissociation and traumatic memory. He is ranked alongside William James and Wilhelm Wundt as one of the founding fathers of psychology. Biography Janet studied under Jean-Martin Charcot at the Psychological Laboratory in the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris. He first published the results of his research in his philosophy thesis in 1889 and in his medical thesis, ''L'état mental des hystériques'', in 1892. He earned a degree in medicine the following year in 1893. In 1898, Janet was appointed lecturer in psychology at the Sorbonne, and in 1902 he attained the chair of experimental and comparative psychology at the Collège de France, a position he held until 1936. Janet, sometimes called Janet Airlines, is the unofficial name given to a highly classified fleet of passenger aircraft operated for the United States Department of the Air Force as an employee shuttle to transport military and contractor employees to Special Access Facilities ( SAPF). Its purpose is to pick up employees at their home airports and take them to their places of work. Then, they take the employees back to their home airports in the afternoon. The airline mainly serves the Nevada National Security Site (most notably Area 51 and the Tonopah Test Range) from a private terminal at Las Vegas's Harry Reid International Airport. The airline's aircraft are generally unmarked but have a red cheatline along the aircraft's windows, which hints at Janet being the operator. Janet Edith Woollacott (November 4, 1939 in Carlton, England – November 13, 2011 in Clamart, Hauts-de-Seine) was a British-born French singer of the 1960s to 2000s. Biography Woollacott was a dancer on the Côte d'Azur aged 20 when she met Claude François, ''Cloclo'', in 1959, whom she married the following year. Only weeks before Claude François became a major star Woollacott left Claude François for Gilbert Bécaud, with whom she had a daughter, Jennifer Bécaud. The split was the subject of Claude François' bitter song "Je sais" (1964). Woollacott later wrote a book detailing the time shared with François. Claude François never remarried and died in 1978. Charles Janet (; 15 June 1849 – 7 February 1932) was a French engineer, company director, inventor and biologist. He is also known for his innovative ''left-step'' presentation of the periodic table of chemical elements. Life and work Janet graduated from the École des Mines and worked for some years in munitions. He then married the daughter of the owner of a manufacturing company and worked for it for the rest of his life, finding time for research in various branches of science. His collection of 40,000 fossils and other specimens was unfortunately dispersed after his death. His studies of the morphology of the head of ants, wasps and bees, and his micrographs were of remarkable quality. He also worked on plant biology and finally wrote a series of papers on evolution. Maurice Janet (1888–1983) was a French mathematician. Education and career In 1912 as a student he visited the University of Göttingen. He was a professor at the University of Caen. He was an Invited Speaker of the International Congress of Mathematicians in 1924 in Toronto, in 1932 in Zürich, and in 1936 in Oslo. Named in his honor are Janet bases, Janet sequences and a related algorithm in the theory of systems of partial differential equations. In 1926 he proved results that were later generalized by John Forbes Nash Jr. in his embedding theorem. In 1948 Janet was the president of the Société Mathématique de France. Paul Alexandre René Janet (30 April 1823 – 4 October 1899) was a French philosopher and writer. Biography Born in Paris, he became professor of moral philosophy at Bourges (1845–1848) and Strasbourg (1848–1857), and of logic at the ''lycée Louis-le-Grand'', Paris (1857–1864). In 1864 he was appointed to the chair of philosophy at the Sorbonne, and elected a member of the academy of moral and political sciences. Janet is a hamlet in southern Alberta under the jurisdiction of Rocky View County. It is located on Township Road 240, approximately east of downtown Calgary, southwest of the Town of Chestermere, and south of Highway 1A. Janet is primarily an industrial area that is home to some transportation and logistics companies. History Janet began as a siding and flag station built by the Canadian National Railway at which a station was erected in 1912. It is believed that the Harry Whittaker family was one of Janet's first settlers. Whittaker built a house approximately from the crossing.
