IBM Rome Software Lab
The IBM Rome Software Lab (formerly known as ''IBM Tivoli Rome Laboratory'') is one of the largest software development laboratories in Italy, and one of the largest IBM Software Group Labs in Europe. Founded in 1978, the Rome Lab (located in Rome) now has more than 550 professionals among software developers, project managers, IT specialists, and IT architects. The main mission of the Rome Lab is focused on IBM Tivoli development, including Tivoli Configuration Manager, Tivoli Remote Control, Tivoli Workload Scheduler, and Tivoli Monitoring. In 2004, the laboratory focused on the adoption of the IBM Rational Unified Process (RUP) in Tivoli and in the wider Software Group inside IBM. In 2007, IBM opened the "Rome SOA Leadership Center" hosted by and formed with a team of experts on service-oriented architecture (SOA) coming from the IBM Rome Software Laboratory. IBM Rational Unified Process
The Rational Unified Process (RUP) is an iterative software development process framework created by the Rational Software Corporation, a division of IBM since 2003. RUP is not a single concrete prescriptive process, but rather an adaptable process framework, intended to be tailored by the development organizations and software project teams that will select the elements of the process that are appropriate for their needs. RUP is a specific implementation of the Unified Process. History Rational Software originally developed the rational unified process as a software process product. The product includes a hyperlinked knowledge-base with sample artifacts and detailed descriptions for many different types of activities. In software engineering, service-oriented architecture (SOA) is an architectural style that focuses on discrete services instead of a monolithic design. By consequence, it is also applied in the field of software design where services are provided to the other components by application components, through a communication protocol over a network.
