Herald (Pakistan)
''The Herald'' was a monthly magazine of politics and current affairs published by the Dawn Media Group from 1970 to 2019 in Karachi, Pakistan. ''The Herald'' has been responsible for producing many large and breaking stories since it started. It was renamed from the ''Illustrated Weekly of Pakistan'' in January 1970, which was published from 1948–1969. It was Pakistan's most widely read monthly magazine, providing in-depth analyses, investigative reporting and an extensive coverage of current affairs. The magazine enjoyed a wide circulation abroad, particularly among academics and Pakistani expatriate communities in the Middle East, United Kingdom and North America. Razia Bhatti
Razia Bhatti (Urdu: رضیہ بھٹی) (born 1944 – died 12 March 1996) was a Pakistani journalist who served as editor of the Herald and Newsline magazines. When she died at the age of 52, the Pakistan Press Foundation called it "end of a golden chapter of journalism in Pakistan." Bhatti founded staff-owned Newsline magazine with the help of other female journalists after leaving Herald magazine. She was the editor of Pakistani magazine Herald for 12 years and then she founded Newsline and edited it for 8 years. In 1994, Bhatti received the “Courage in Journalism” award from the New York-based International Women's Media Foundation. Early life Razia Bhatti was born in 1944 at Karachi. She did her master's degree in English and Journalism from Karachi University and then decided to join professional journalism as her career. The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF), located in Washington, D.C., is an organization working internationally to elevate the status of women in the media. The IWMF has created programs to help women in the media develop practical solutions to the obstacles they face in their careers and lives. Pakistan Herald Limited, doing business as the Dawn Media Group, is a Pakistani media company based in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. It publishes the ''Dawn'' newspaper and operates a TV channel, radio stations and websites. It is a listed member of All Pakistan Newspapers Society. Although it has faced tough competition from the Jang Group, it has still managed to remain popular. The group is headed by the Pakistani media mogul Hameed Haroon, its current CEO. Ownership The Karachi based group is owned by the powerful Haroon and Saigol families.
