HBO Latin America Group
HBO Latin America was a company that owned and distributed several television channels in the region of Latin America. It was originally founded as a joint venture between WarnerMedia, Time Warner and Ole Distribution, Ole Communications in 1991 with the launch of HBO in the region. The HBO Brasil, HBO Brazilian channel was launched in 1994. In 1990s Sony and The Walt Disney Company, Disney became shareholders and left in 2010. The company later began distributing other channels from companies such as Turner, Sony, A&E and NBCUniversal. In October 2019, WarnerMedia announced an agreement with Ole to acquire the latter's minority interest. HBO Brasil, which is another joint venture of HBO with Ole was not affected by the transaction. Sony Channel (Latin America)
Sony Channel (commonly referred to on-air as Sony) is a Latin American pay television channel that broadcasts TV series and movies. It is owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment and distributed by Ole Distribution. It was the first pan-regional basic-tier channel that offered programming in English with Spanish subtitles. In Mexico it was first available on Televisa's Cablevisión cable TV system in March 1996 followed by its launch in Brazil that same year. Syfy is a Latin American channel dedicated to science fiction and fantasy programming, owned by NBCUniversal International Networks, a division of NBCUniversal. The local version of the channel, available both in Spanish- and Portuguese-language feeds (for Spanish-speaking countries and for Brazil, respectively), was launched in 2007. Until October 10, 2010, Syfy was known as Sci Fi. Studio Universal Latin America is a 24-hour cable television channel broadcasting from New York, United States, targeted for Middle and South American audiences. It is owned by Universal Networks International, a division of NBCUniversal, and was launched in Latin America in September, 1997. It mostly airs American movies and films and some series and is a sister channel to Universal Channel in the region. It broadcasts in four feeds, ''Brasil'', ''Mexico'', ''Argentina'' and ''Latam''. Globosat, was a Brazilian pay television content service, part of Grupo Globo. Established in 1991, after the creation of subscription television services in Brazil, with 29 channels and over 1,000 employees, it is the largest pay television content provider in Brazil, as well as of Latin America, comprising a domestic audience of 45 million viewers distributed among more than 15 million households. Universal TV, formerly Universal Channel, is an international pay television network specializing in movies and television series in the thriller, drama, comedy, horror, crime and investigation genres, owned by NBCUniversal International Networks, a division of NBCUniversal and available on satellite and cable platforms.
