Davao del Norte ( ceb, Amihanang Dabaw; tl, Hilagang Davao), officially the Province of Davao del Norte, is a province in the Philippines located in the Davao Region in Mindanao. Its capital and largest city is Tagum. The province also includes Samal Island to the south in the Davao Gulf. Before 1967, the five provinces— Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental, Davao Oriental—and Guipuzcoa were administered as a single province named Davao, a provincial district of the Department of Mindanao and Sulu. The present-day Davao Region is coterminous with this former province. Davao del Norte is also known as "The Banana Capital of the Philippines." Samal Island
Samal, officially the Island Garden City of Samal (IGaCOS; fil, Pulong Harding Lungsod ng Samal, ceb, Pulong Harding Dakbayan sa Samal) is a 4th class component city in the province of Davao del Norte, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 116,771 people. It is made up of Samal Island and the smaller Talikud Island in the Davao Gulf, from the merger of former municipalities of Samal, Babak, and Kaputian. Samal is a part of the Metropolitan Davao area and is two kilometers away from Davao City, the largest city and the primary economic center of Mindanao. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 296,202 people making it the most populous component city in Mindanao. San Isidro, officially the Municipality of San Isidro ( ceb, Lungsod sa San Isidro; tl, Bayan ng San Isidro), is a 5th class municipality in the province of Davao del Norte, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 27,233 people. History San Isidro was created on June 26, 2004, after the ratification of ''Republic Act (RA) No. 9265''. It was formed out of 6 barangays of Asuncion and 7 barangays of Kapalong. Kapalong, officially the Municipality of Kapalong ( ceb, Lungsod sa Kapalong; tl, Bayan ng Kapalong), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Davao del Norte, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 81,068 people. History The town was founded on July 8, 1948, from the Municipal District of Tagum, which was formed in 1918. It was one of the oldest towns in Davao del Norte Province, others being Tagum, in 1941; and Panabo, in 1949, both of which were converted into cities almost 50 years later.
