Batino
Batino is a rural industrial barangay located at Calamba City, Laguna, Philippines. Batino is located to the east of Barandal, south of Mayapa, north of Prinza and west of Paciano Rizal. Most of the establishments, if not all, are located on the west side of South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), leaving the east side of the barangay less developed than the west side of it, partly because the only access points are the SLEX and the Batino-Mayapa Road. Etymology Barangay Batino got its name from the hard milkwood tree or '' Alstonia microphylla'', which is called ''batino'' in Tagalog. The tree was once abundant in the area. Alstonia Macrophylla
''Alstonia macrophylla'', the hard alstonia, hard milkwood or big-leaved macrophyllum, is a species of plant in the family Apocynaceae. Distribution It is native to Indonesia (Kalimantan and Sulawesi), Malaysia, the Philippines ( Tagalog: ''batino''), Thailand, and Vietnam. It was introduced to Sri Lanka, where it is known as ''hawari nuga'' by local Sinhalese people. Description Alstonia macrophylla is a tree with a straight trunk and a high, narrow crown. It can grow up to 30 meters tall. The trunk and branches contain a white latex. The bark is smooth and has a light grey color. Leaves are in whorls of three to four, simple, penni-veined, membranous, and glabrous above. South Luzon Expressway
The South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), signed as E2 of the Philippine expressway network and R-3 of the Metro Manila arterial road network, is a limited-access toll expressway that connects Metro Manila to the provinces in the Calabarzon region on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. The expressway has a length of , traveling from its northern terminus at the Magallanes Interchange in Makati to its southern terminus at Santo Tomas, Batangas, connecting it to the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road.
