Playing career

Gunnyon played four seasons with South Fremantle in the

, playing 54 games. He represented Western Australia in the
1921 Perth Carnival The 1921 Perth Carnival was the fourth edition of the Australian National Football Carnival, an Australian rules football interstate competition, staged in August 1921. It was the first carnival to take place in Perth and was won by the home state ...
. In 1922 Gunnyon transferred to St Kilda in the VFL going on to play 63 games for the club, the latter games in an unfamiliar defensive role. Gunnyon was appointed as captain / coach of the
Camberwell Football Club Camberwell Football Club was an Australian rules football club which formed around the mid-1880s, with a published match in 1886 and competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) between 1926 and 1990. Nicknamed the Cobras, Camberwell wo ...
in 1928. He moved across to newly admitted VFA club, Oakleigh in 1929 and played in their 1930 premiership team.


War service

Gunnyon enlisted with the Australian Imperial Force in November 1915, serving in France.
