Camberwell Football Club
Camberwell Football Club was an Australian rules football club which formed around the mid-1880s, with a published match in 1886 and competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) between 1926 and 1990. Nicknamed the Cobras, Camberwell wore blue, white and red club colours. They were based in the Melbourne suburb of Camberwell. History Camberwell FC competed in the Victorian Junior Football Association in 1888, finishing sixth on the ladder, 8th in 1890 and 8th in 1891. At the 1895 VJFA – AGM, the competition was reduced from 20 teams to 12 teams and Camberwell was one of the clubs that was not admitted and it appears that Camberwell FC went into recess for a number of years, before joining the Eastern Suburbs Football Association in 1899. 1979 VFA Season
The 1979 Victorian Football Association season was the 98th season of the top division of the Australian rules football competition, and the 19th season of second division competition. The Division 1 premiership was won by the Coburg Football Club, after it defeated Geelong West in the Grand Final on 23 September by eight points; it was Coburg's fourth Division 1 premiership, and its first since 1928, ending a 51-year Division 1 premiership drought. The Division 2 premiership was won by Camberwell; it was the first premiership in either division ever won by the club since its admission to the Association in 1926, 53 years earlier. Brunswick Football Club was an Australian rules football club which played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1897 until 1991. Based in Brunswick, Victoria, for most of their time in the Association they were known as the Magpies, and wore black and white guernseys. In its final two seasons in the VFA, it was known as Brunswick-Broadmeadows. History Brunswick Football Club was formed in 1865 and joined the VFA in the 1897 season. Ken Ross (Australian Rules Footballer)
Kenneth Douglas Ross (27 August 1927 – 19 September 2004) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Ross was a versatile footballer, used often as a ruck-rover, whom Fitzroy recruited from VFA club Northcote. He spent eight seasons at Fitzroy, before returning to the VFA in 1956 where he was signed by Camberwell as playing coach. In 1957 he won the J. J. Liston Trophy and two years later made a comeback with Fitzroy. Frank Stubbs (Australian Footballer)
Frank William Stubbs (27 September 1919 – 16 May 1997) was an Australian rules footballer who played for North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Used in the ruck, Stubbs had two stints at North Melbourne, separated by World War II. He was North Melbourne's best placed player at the 1940 Brownlow Medal, with nine votes. Stubbs returned in 1945 and participated in their first ever finals match. Stubbs finished his career at Camberwell, where he won each of their 'Best and Fairest' awards from 1948 to 1950. Leon Rice (Australian Footballer)
Leon Rice (born 23 August 1951) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the VFL during the 1970s. Football career When Rice was 14 he won the Warragul District Junior FL best and fairest in 1965. Rice was recruited to Hawthorn from Drouin when the VFL had zoning areas in 1970. A wingman, Rice was a premiership player with Hawthorn in 1971 and was a reserve in their 1976 flag win. He left Hawthorn and accepted the Captain-coach position at the Camberwell Football Club. The club won 1981 VFA second division premiership. After he retired as a player Rice joined the Hawthorn Football Club board. Victorian Amateur Football Association
The Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) is the largest senior community Australian rules football competition in Victoria. It consists of seven senior men's and women's divisions ranging from Premier to Division 4. In addition there are U19's sections and five Thirds sections, primarily made up of either clubs only able to field one team, or clubs from higher sections that can field a third team after their seniors and reserves. The league operates a double promotion and relegation system between sections with various rules dictating which section clubs can play in. The Williamstown Football Club, nicknamed The Seagulls, is an Australian rules football club based in Melbourne. The club currently competes in the men's and women's Victorian Football League and VFLW competitions. History The Williamstown Football Club was formed in 1864, making it one of the oldest football clubs in Australia. The 1984 Victorian Football Association season was the 103rd season of the top division of the Australian rules football competition, and the 24th season of second division competition. The Division 1 premiership was won by the Preston Football Club, after it defeated Frankston in the Grand Final on 23 September by 54 points; it was Preston's fourth Division 1 premiership, and its second in a row. Waverley Football Club, nicknamed the Panthers, were an Australian rules football club which played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1961 until 1987. Waverley wore red and black as their club colours and was based at Central Reserve in the Melbourne suburb of Glen Waverley.
