. It is one of many commercial buildings constructed in Fremantle during the
gold boom period in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.
The two storey building was constructed in 1890 for the Fremantle branch of Robert Harper and Co., a manufacturing and distribution business. It was designed in the Inter-War Stripped Classical style.
It was a built with a combination of offices and warehouse space,
but comprised only offices. There is a basement level partially below ground.
The building was gutted by fire in 1922, causing between £40,000 and £50,000 worth of damage.
The building was classified by the
National Trust
