Riordan is a surname of Irish origin (Irish: ''Ó Ríordáin''; Old Irish: ''Ó Ríorghbhardáin''); ''Rearden'' is a variant of it. From ''ri'' “king” and ''bard'' “poet”, it means “royal poet”.
