Software issues

In October 2021, some early buyers reported that their phone screens exhibited a "display flicker" bug when pressing the power button with the phone turned off. The issue was fixed by a software patch two months later. In November, some users reported that the fingerprint scanner would stop working when they change the phone's animation speed or the phone drains its battery, while other units could be unlocked by fingerprints not registered on the device. Google attributed the perceived slow speed of the fingerprint scanner to security reasons, and rolled out an update later that month addressing some of its other issues. Reports also circulated that the Google Assistant was randomly placing calls to individuals in users' contacts list, which was fixed shortly afterward. Another bug in the Google Photos app caused the Magic Eraser feature to disappear from some devices, with Google rolling out a fix in February 2022. In December 2021, Google's monthly software update for Pixel devices caused network connectivity issues for some users in Europe. Google began testing fixes for the problem later that month, later pausing the rollout out of the update amidst reports of calls being dropped or disconnected and eventually completely delisting it. Another bug in the update forced Google to disable the Call Screen and Hold For Me features on some Pixel 6 devices. In February 2022, numerous users reported
