It is Malaysia's historical convention centre and the preferred venue for local and international conventions, concerts, weddings, including small events like seminar, training, and meetings. Construction commenced in 1981 and was completed in 1984. The building was officially opened on 26 September 1985. Before the PWTC, the area was the venue of the first and subsequent annual
