After debuting at several international film festivals, it was released on September 9, 2020, in Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, and New Zealand. Despite the story's popularity among Chinese readers, due to souring Korea-China relations after the former deployed the THAAD missile defense system, no Chinese investors would support the film and it was not released in China.
