The town was founded in 1885 by E.D. Strang, who suggested that it become the county seat for Fisher County. It had a population of 200 by 1890 and had three stores, a hotel, and a blacksmithy.

The Roby and Northern Railroad was constructed in 1915 to connect the agricultural community of Roby, Texas with a connection to the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway at North Roby, then known as Old Fisher, both located in Fisher County, Texas, ...
