After he spent three and a half years in Utrecht, he was loaned to FC Dallas for 6 months before making the move permanent.

As FIFA regulations state that a player who has appeared for a national team at a competitive level over the age of 21, cannot change their national team. On 15 August 2024, a FIFA court was being held to determine whether Paes is eligible to represent Indonesia or not. Three days later, PSSI chairman Erick Thohir confirmed that after a long process, Paes is now officially eligible to represent the Indonesia national team.
