, he taught there. In February 1997 he founded the Biomedical Photonics Research Center. In 1999 he became vice-chairman of its College of Life Science and Technology, rising to chairman in 2004. He served as chairman of College of Optoelectronic Science and Engineering between July 2007 and June 2012. In August 2007 he was promoted to become vice-president of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, he remained at the position until September 2018, when he was transferred to
