It is a comprehensive key university formed by a merger with the former South China University of Tropical Agriculture () in August 2007. It is jointly administered by the Ministry of Education and the Hainan Provincial People's Government. In December 2008, it was approved by the state as a key university under the Double First Class University Plan and former Project 211. Danzhou
Danzhou () is a prefecture-level city in the northwest of the Chinese island province of Hainan. Although called a "city", Danzhou administers a large area which was called Dan County or Danxian () until 1993. Haidian Island
Haidian Island () is an island that forms part of the city of Haikou, Hainan Province, China. It is separated from the main part of Haikou by the Haidian River. The north coast faces the Qiongzhou Strait. The east coast faces Xinbu Island, separated by part of the Nandu River. The west coast faces Haikou Bay. Both Renmin Avenue and Heping Avenue are the main streets on the island. The former that runs through the middle of the island from the south at the Renmin Bridge to the north shore at the newly built Baishamen Park, which contains an amusement park. Luo Qingming (; born January 1966) is a Chinese scientist currently serving as president of Hainan University since September 2018. Education Luo was born in Qichun County, Hubei in January 1966. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering degree from Xidian University in 1986. He received his Master of Science in optics degree and Doctor of Engineering in physical electronics and optoelectronics degree from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 1986 and 1993, respectively.
