At the age of 22 in 1995, Mvimbi was elected Mayor of the

. He served as mayor until 1998. Following his first stint as Mayor, he went on to study at the

The governing Democratic Alliance announced that it had offered the post of Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts to the official opposition African National Congress.
