Lift Net
Lift nets, also called lever nets, are a method of fishing using nets that are submerged to a certain depth and then lifted out of the water vertically. The nets can be flat or shaped like a bag, a rectangle, a pyramid, or a cone. Lift nets can be hand-operated, boat-operated, or shore-operated. They typically use bait or a Fishing light attractor, light-source as a fish-attractor. Lift nets are also sometimes called "dip nets", though that term applies more accurately to hand nets. Lift nets are hauled out by hand or mechanically through boom(s) and blocks. The handling (setting and hauling) of large lift nets, normally requires in addition one or several winches. A winch is a mechanical device that is used to pull in (wind up) or let out (wind out) or otherwise adjust the tension (physics), tension of a rope or wire rope (also called "cable" or "wire cable"). In its simplest form, it consists of a Bobbin, spool (or drum) attached to a hand crank (mechanism), crank. Traditionally, winches on ships accumulated wire or rope on the drum; those that do not accumulate, and instead pass on the wire/rope (see yacht photo above), are called Capstan_(nautical), capstans. Sallertaine
Sallertaine () is a commune in the Vendée department in the Pays de la Loire region in western France. Apart from the two historical churches, the village is well known as an arts and crafts community due to the number of independent craftsmen and women who occupy various outlets, often in former homes, during the summer months. These range from potters and painters to jewellers and purveyors of fine, local foods. There is also a bread making museum that uses multi-lingual audio-commentary to illustrate how French artisan bakers make their famous products. It is possible for visitors to try their hand at bread making. On several evenings during the summer the village has live entertainment attracting French and foreign visitors. Comacchio (; ) is a town and ''comune'' of Emilia Romagna, Italy, in the province of Ferrara, from the provincial capital Ferrara. Cheena Vala
Chinese fishing nets (''Cheena vala'' in India or ''tangkul'' in Indonesia) are a type of stationary lift net in India and Indonesia. They are fishing nets that are fixed land installations for fishing. While commonly known as "Chinese fishing nets" in India, the more formal name for such nets is "shore operated lift nets". Huge mechanical contrivances hold out horizontal nets of 20 m or more across. Each structure is at least 10 m high and comprises a cantilever with an outstretched net suspended over the sea and large stones suspended from ropes as counterweights at the other end. Each installation is operated by a team of up to six fishermen. While such nets are used throughout coastal southern China and Indochina, in India they are mostly found in the Indian cities of Kochi and Kollam, where they have become a tourist attraction.
