Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 35.4 square miles (91.7 km2), of which, 35.1 square miles (91.0 km2) is land and 0.3 square miles (0.7 km2)(0.76%) is water.


Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,287 people, 456 households, and 378 families residing in the town. The population density was 36.6 people per square mile (14.1/km2). There were 498 housing units at an average density of 14.2 per square mile (5.5/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.21% White, 0.08% Native American, 1.09% from other races, and 0.62% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino people of any race were 1.32% of the population. In the town, the population was spread out, with 27.7% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 27.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who were 65 years of age or older.
