The album pays tribute to people and places. The album honors royal Hawaiian ali'i including Kalākaua, Kamehameha I and Queen Kalama. On "Kuhio Makamae", he pays tribute to Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana’ole and his resistance to the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom and illegal annexation of Hawaii.
