He is married to Teresa Nichols, and has three children. In 2021, Mullis sponsored elections reform legislation in Georgia. The bill would end no-excuse absentee voting and restrict absentee voting to those who are over 75, have a physical disability or are out of town. He sponsored the legislation during the COVID-19 pandemic and shortly after the 2020 elections where Democratic candidates won both of Georgia's U.S. Senate, as well as Georgia's electoral college votes in the presidential election.
