Name and history

It is one of seven Goshen Townships statewide. Originally part of Allen County, the township was formed in 1836. The township was also involved in one of the last county border changes in Ohio. This change occurred in 1888 when part of Stokes Township in

was exchanged to Clay Township for part of Goshen Township.


Government

The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the fiscal officership or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees. The current trustees are Gary Horn, Donald Spangler, and Larry Williams, and Jodi Hennon is the township clerk. The trustees themselves plow snow and mow along the roads in the township. On November 6, 2007, Edward Spencer was elected to replace Larry Williams in January 2008.
