The name Geiselwind can be dated to the 8th century AD. At this time by decree of the German emperor, Wends were settled in the Frankish area. Geiselwind market in today's Lower Franconia belonged to the sovereign ''Grafschaft von Schwarzenberg.'' With the Rheinbundakte in 1806 the place came to Bavaria.
