The son of William Phillip Davies (1884–1983), and Marian Davies (1885–1963), née Thompson, Frederick James Davies was born at
Seaford, Victoria Seaford is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 36 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Frankston local government area. Seaford recorded a population of 17,215 at the . History Seafor ...
on 14 August 1921. He married Joan Mason in 1948, and was the father of the famous Tasmanian dual Olympic basketballer Ian Davies (1956–2013).
