''Cyathea affinis'' (G.Forst.) Sw. is not to be confused with ''Cyathea affinis'' Brack, a synonym of '' Sphaeropteris propinqua'', nor ''Cyathea affinis'' A.Rojas, a synonym of '' Cyathea retanae''. Young shoots of ''C. affinis'' are eaten in the Marquesas Islands.
