History

The first moves towards the Committee were taken after earthquake researchers published ''Earthquake Prediction - Current Status and Action Plan'' in 1962. This was adopted by the General Assembly of Geodesy Council with the launch of their first prediction plan in 1964. Following earthquakes in 1964, 1965, and 1968 the EEPC was founded to coordinate future prediction activities.Avances en prevención de desastres sísmicos en Japón. Geographical Areas of Observation

In order to focus future work, based on the geological evidence, and as well as the prediction of a Tōkai earthquake in the relatively near future, in 1970, the CCEP designated certain areas of Japan as Areas of Specified Observation or Areas of Intensified Observation. Two grave issues concerning the expected Tokai Earthquake
