Isaak was born in Stockton, California, to Dorothy (''née'' Vignolo; 1931–2021), and Joseph "Joe" Isaak (1929–2012), a

In 1985, Isaak signed a contract with Warner Bros. Records and released his first album, '' Silvertone'', to critical acclaim, including from
