History

Calliope Division was created on 11 November 1879 as one of 74 divisions around Queensland under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879'' with a population of 1044. On 7 January 1902 part of Calliope Division was separated to create Miriam Vale Division. With the passage of the ''Local Authorities Act 1902'', Calliope Division became the Shire of Calliope on 31 March 1903. In 1927, the council hall was in Gladstone.
