O'Keeffe became a professional referee for the

O'Keefe, now a regular on the Super Rugby circuit, was appointed to referee the final of Super Rugby Aotearoa 2021 and inaugural Super Rugby Pacific in 2022 which he was credited for his handling of two controversial moments. After the 2023 Super Rugby Final he came under severe social media criticism which included death threats in which he posted a public statement against. This was well received and supported by numerous rugby organisations including New Zealand Rugby. He was recipient of New Zealand Referee of the year awards in 2018, 2021 and 2022. He was also rewarded in 2023 for refereeing 35 international test matches - making him the 2nd most capped New Zealand test match referee in history.


International career

On 18 July 2015 he made his international debut as an assistant referee, officiating in the first match of the

He then went on to be a match official in all play-off games including the final, England vs South Africa. O'Keeffe began his 2020 International refereeing campaign in the

O'Keeffe grew up in Blenheim, New Zealand and attended Marlborough Boys' College where he was head boy in 2006. He then studied a
