2014 IRB Junior World Championship
The 2014 IRB Junior World Championship was the seventh annual international rugby union competition for Under 20 national teams. The event was organised in Auckland, New Zealand by rugby's governing body, World Rugby, then known as the International Rugby Board. A total of 12 nations took part in the tournament. England went into the tournament as defending champions, after winning the tournament for the first time in 2013. England went on to win the Championship for a second time in two years. While hosts New Zealand, the most successful team in the tournament, were looking to win the title for the first time since 2011. Italy were the champions of the 2013 IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy, thus being promoted to the Championship. The 2013 IRB Junior World Championship was the sixth annual international rugby union competition for Under 20 national teams. The event was organised in France by rugby's governing body, the IRB. A total of twelve nations played in the tournament. South Africa went into the tournament as defending champions, after winning the tournament for the first time in 2012. England were crowned the 2013 champions for the first time after defeating Wales 23–15 in the final on the 23 June at Stade de la Rabine in Vannes. After finishing last at the 2012 IRB Junior World Championship, Italy were relegated to the IRB Junior World Trophy and therefore didn't participate in this year's event. After finishing first at the 2012 IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy, the United States were promoted to this competition for 2013. Federico Anselmi (born 29 August 1982) is a rugby union referee who represents the Argentine Rugby Union (UAR). He also is a referee for Major League Rugby in North America. Refereeing career Anselmi is a referee on the Sevens World Series circuit, haven made his debut during the 2009 Dubai Sevens - 2009–10 IRB Sevens World Series. He is a referee on the seven circuit and was rewarded with a place on the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens referee panel. The South African Rugby Union (SARU) is the governing body for rugby union in South Africa and is affiliated to World Rugby. Marius van der Westhuizen (born 6 January 1984) is a South African professional rugby union referee, currently on the Premier Panel of the South African Rugby Referees' Association. He is well known for his dominant match involvement and for ensuring his home team the Bulls get the rub of the green, whenever possible. Alexandre Ruiz (born 24 March 1987) is a professional rugby union referee who represents the French Rugby Federation. He is a regular appointment at Top 14 and has recently joined the top level of European Rugby. Matt O'Brien (born 22 July 1981) is a New Zealand-born Australian professional rugby union referee. He has officiated on the IRB Sevens World Series circuit since 2011 and was appointed to the Super Rugby referees panel for 2014 and 2015.
