''B. variolaris'' was the original "strawberry-headed" trilobite of Dudley, so-named because of its nodular glabellar tubercles, and well known to early trilobite collectors. Additional species were originally assigned to ''Balizoma'', but were subsequently placed in other encrinurine genera.
