In July 2019, on the occasion of Alluri Sitarama Raju's 122nd birth anniversary, state Tourism Minister Avanthi Srinivasa Rao said a newly formed district would be named after Alluri Sitarama Raju. The district was proposed on 26 January 2022 by the
