. He was again candidate for governor of Gombe State in 2007 on the DPP platform. He was arrested in March 2007 and put on trial over violence that allegedly broke out after he started his political campaign. Armed supporters stormed the magistrate's court, freeing Hashidu and wounding the judge presiding over his case. Hashidu died in his house in the early hours of 27 July 2018, after a protracted illness.
