= The two frontrunners for the open council seat were David Carr, chief of staff to outgoing councilman Matteo, and Marko Kepi, a Marine reservist who had previously lost in a campaign for the New York State Assembly. The race became contentious as results were tabulated, with Carr accusing Kepi of engaging in an illegal ballot harvesting operation and forging signatures on absentee ballots.
