The Russian occupation of Kherson Oblast is an ongoing military occupation of Ukraine's Kherson Oblast by Russian forces that began on 2March 2022 during the Russian invasion of Ukraine as part of the southern Ukraine campaign. The Russian-installed occupation regime was called the "Kherson military-civilian administration". Its name was changed to "Kherson Oblast" after the Russian annexation. Russia captured the city of Kherson 2 March 2022, which is the capital city of the oblast and is therefore strategically important. Kherson International Airport ( uk, Міжнародний аеропорт Херсон; ) is a civil and military airport serving the city of Kherson, Ukraine. It is located at Chornobaivka, in Kherson Oblast, on the north-west outskirts of the city of Kherson. Kherson Raion ( uk, Херсонський район, russian: Херсонский район) is a raion (district) of Kherson Oblast, Ukraine. It was created in July 2020 as part of the reform of administrative divisions of Ukraine. The center of the raion is the city of Kherson. The Kherson Art Museum (also known as the Shovkunenko Kherson Regional Art Museum; uk, Херсонський обласний художній музей імені Олексія Шовкуненка, translit=Khersonskyi oblasnyi khudozhnii muzei imeni Oleksiia Shovkunenka) is an art museum in Kherson, Ukraine. The Battle of Kherson was a military engagement between Russian and Ukrainian forces that began on 24 February 2022 as part of the southern Ukraine offensive of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
