Štefka Kučan
Štefka Kučan (born ?) is a Slovenian public figure who served as the inaugural First Lady of Slovenia from 1991, when the country achieved independence, until 2002. She is the wife of Slovenia's first president, Milan Kučan. Biography Kučan was born into the Korosica family in Carinthia, a traditional region of northern Slovenia. She was raised in both Slovenj Gradec and nearby Šmartno. She met her husband, Milan Kučan, as a student in Ljubljana. Recognition Of Same-sex Unions In Slovenia
Same-sex marriage in Slovenia has been legal since 9 July 2022 in accordance with a ruling from the Constitutional Court of Slovenia. The court ruled that the ban on same-sex marriages violated the Constitution of Slovenia and gave the Slovenian Parliament six months to amend the law to align with the ruling, although the decision took effect immediately. The National Assembly passed legislation on 4 October 2022, which was overridden by the National Council one week later, but reconfirmed with a final vote in the National Assembly on 18 October 2022. Slovenia was the first country of former Yugoslavia to legalise same-sex marriage, the 18th in Europe, and the 31st worldwide. Barbara Miklič Türk ( Miklič, born 1948) is a Slovenian politician, who was First Lady of Slovenia from 2007 to 2012, when her husband Danilo Türk was President. Personal life Miklič was born in 1948 in Ljubljana, Socialist Republic of Slovenia (now the capital of the Republic of Slovenia). Her father was a miner and geophysical engineer, and her mother was a microbiologist. During her teenage years, she lived with her family in Sudan, and went to a Catholic school there.
