Škoda Favorit
Škoda Favorit is a model name that the Czechoslovakia, Czechoslovak (and now Czech Republic, Czech) car maker Škoda Auto has used for two series of car models. The first series was the Type 904 which was a 1.8 litre car built from 1936 to 1939, and its successor the Type 923 which was a 2.1 litre car built from 1938 to 1941. These two models had little commercial success and were discontinued after only 223 examples had been built. After their commercial failure, Škoda did not use the Favorit model name again for 46 years. The second series is the Type 781 range of Supermini, supermini cars that was made from 1987 to 1995. It was Škoda's first car to follow the European trend of locating the front-engine design, engine at the front, mounted transverse engine, transversely, and was also their first car to use front-wheel drive. Škoda Auto a.s. (), often shortened to Škoda, is a Czech automobile manufacturer established in 1925 as the successor to Laurin & Klement and headquartered in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic. A straight-four engine (also called an inline-four) is a four-cylinder piston engine where cylinders are arranged in a line along a common crankshaft. Rear-engine Design
In automobile design, a rear-engine design layout places the engine at the rear of the vehicle. The center of gravity of the engine itself is behind the rear axle. This is not to be confused with the center of gravity of the whole vehicle, as an imbalance of such proportions would make it impossible to keep the front wheels on the ground. Rear-engined vehicles almost always have a rear-wheel drive car layout, but some are four wheel drive. A transverse engine is an engine mounted in a vehicle so that the engine's crankshaft axis is perpendicular to the direction of travel. Many modern front-wheel drive vehicles use this engine mounting configuration. In automotive design, a front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout, or FF layout, places both the internal combustion engine and driven roadwheels at the front of the vehicle. Gruppo Bertone, commonly known as Bertone, was an Italian industrial design company which specialized in car styling, coachbuilding and manufacturing. It formerly was also a car manufacturing company. Bertone styling was distinctive, with most cars having a strong "family resemblance" even if they were badged by different manufacturers.
