Şemdinli, Hakkâri
Şemdinli ( ku, Şemzînan, script=Latn, syr, ܫܲܡܙܕܝܼܢ, Šamzdīn) is a town located in the Şemdinli District of Hakkari Province in Turkey and had a population of 42,626 in 2021. The town is populated by Kurds from the Humaru and Zerzan tribes and moreover of mixed tribal and non-tribal origin. Neighborhoods Şemdinli is divided into the five neighborhoods of Beşevler, Karşıyaka, Moda, Yayla and Yeni. Kurdish-Turkish conflict Conflict between the PKK and the Turkish state forces A bomb exploded in Şemdinli town centre on November 1, 2005. It was officially attributed to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), an armed Kurdish militant group. On November 9 one man was killed in a grenade attack on a local bookshop. The suspects of this attack, however, were caught in the act by bystanders. They were said to be members of a Turkish Gendarmerie unit, JITEM. Şemdinli District
Şemdinli District is a district in the Hakkâri Province of Turkey. The district had a population of 42,471 in 2022 with the town of Şemdinli as its seat. Its area is 1,209 km2. The district was established in 1936. Part of the district was separated to form Derecik District in 2018. The current district governor (''kaymakam)'' is Batuhan Taşgın. Köppen Climate Classification
The Köppen climate classification is one of the most widely used climate classification systems. It was first published by German-Russian climatologist Wladimir Köppen (1846–1940) in 1884, with several later modifications by Köppen, notably in 1918 and 1936. Later, the climatologist Rudolf Geiger (1894–1981) introduced some changes to the classification system, which is thus sometimes called the Köppen–Geiger climate classification system. Hakkâri Province
Hakkâri Province (, tr, Hakkâri ili, ku, Parêzgeha Colemêrgê), is a province in the southeast of Turkey. The administrative centre is the city of Hakkâri. The province covers an area of 7,121 km² and had a population of 286,470 in 2018. The province was created in 1936 out of Van Province and borders Şırnak Province to the west, Van Province to the north, Iran to the east, and Iraq to the south. Village Guard System
Village guards ( tr, Korucular lit. "Rangers"), officially known as ''Türkiye Güvenlik Köy Korucuları'' ("Security Village Guards of Turkey"), are Gendarmerie General Command-aligned Border guards involved in the Kurdish-Turkish conflict, mostly Kurds but also Circassians, Afghans, Turks, Uzbeks and Kyrgyz people. Originally they were set up and funded by the Turkish state in the mid-1980s under the direction of Turgut Özal. Their stated purpose was to act as a local militia in towns and villages, protecting against attacks and reprisals from the insurgents of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). NTV is a Turkish nationwide television news channel owned by Doğuş Media Group. It was partnered with MSNBC between May 2000 and 2014.
