Sakae Ōba
(21 March 1914 – 8 June 1992) was an officer of the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. He served in both China and in the Pacific campaign. After Japanese forces were defeated in the Battle of Saipan, he led a group of soldiers and civilians deep into the jungle to evade capture by Allied forces. Under Ōba's leadership, the group survived for over a year after the battle and finally surrendered in December 1945, three months after the war had ended. Following his return to Japan, he became a successful businessman and served on the city council of Gamagori, Aichi. Early life Sakae Ōba was born on 21 March 1914 in the town of Gamagori, Aichi prefecture. He was the first son of Isuke Ōba, a farmer. In March 1933, Ōba graduated from the Aichi Prefecture Teacher Training School of Practical Education () and the following month he accepted a faculty position at a public school in the area. Shōgyo Ōba
was a Japanese maki-e lacquer artist. He began practicing the art of maki-e lacquerware in Kanazawa in 1945. Shōgyo was named a Living National Treasure of Japan in 1982 for his expertise in maki-e lacquerware. Mina Ōba
is a former member of the Japanese idol girl group SKE48 of which she was captain of Team KII. Before, she was a member of Team B in AKB48. On October 9, 2021, Ōba announced that she will graduate from SKE48 and leave the idol industry in April 2022, the time of her 30th birthday. Her 3-part graduation concert was on April 1 to 3 (the final day being her 30th birthday celebration). Her final theater performance was on April 23. She was supposed to officially graduate from the group on April 30, but she tested positive for COVID-19 on April 29, the day before her planned graduation. Her graduation date was postponed to May 21. Minako Oba
was a Japanese author and social critic. She was awarded the 1968 Akutagawa Prize for ''Sanbiki no kani'' (Three Crabs), and the 1982 Tanizaki Prize for ''Katachi mo naku'' (寂兮寥兮). Ōba suffered a stroke in 1996 and died on May 24, 2007. Ōba Kagechika
(died 1180), also known as Ōba Saburō Kagechika, was a samurai of Japan's Heian period. The third son of Oba Kageyoshi, he fought alongside his father, against the Minamoto Clan, in the Hōgen Rebellion of 1156. Facing off against Minamoto no Tametomo during the Hōgen Rebellion, Kagechika is credited with challenging Tametomo, crying ''Lord Hachiman! Hideo Ohba
was a Japanese aikido and judo teacher and the Second Director of Japan Aikido Association after the death of Kenji Tomiki. He was born as Hideo Tozawa in a village called Nakagawa in Akita prefecture. In 1936, he adopted his wife's name upon marriage in deference to her fame as a young teacher of the Japanese harp. The year 1931 was pivotal for Hideo Ohba. He was awarded 2nd dan in judo, met Kenji Tomiki and was called up to serve in the military which he did with distinction. His professional and personal relationship with Kenji Tomiki became very close. He was awarded 5th dan in judo in 1933. From 1940 he was teaching judo at Kenkoku University in Manchukuo. In 1942 he was awarded 5th dan by Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of aikido, who used him as uke during the budo festival on the 10th anniversary of the foundation of Manchukuo. is a Japanese figure skater who competes in ladies' singles. She has won silver medals on the senior international level at the 2014 Cup of Nice, 2014 Gardena Spring Trophy, and 2013 Triglav Trophy.
