İştar Gözaydın
İştar Gözaydın (April 5, 1959 - Istanbul, Turkey) is a professor of Law and Politics. She is also a founder of the Helsinki Citizens Assembly, a human rights organization in Turkey. She was a research fellow at the University of London, Birkbeck College Birkbeck, University of London in 2009 and she was a Fulbright Program scholar in the U.S. in 1986-87. She was detained after December 20, 2016 in the aftermath of the failed coup attempt in Turkey in the summer of the same year. Following her detention she was formally arrested on suspicion of "being a member of an armed terror organisation" on the basis of alleged testimonies from a secret witness and an intelligence report. She was detained at Şakran prison, İzmir Province. Helsinki Citizens Assembly
The Helsinki Citizens' Assembly (hCa) is an organization of citizens dedicated to peace, democracy and human rights in Europe. 2016 Turkish Coup D'état Attempt
On 15 July 2016, a faction within the Turkish Armed Forces, organized as the Peace at Home Council, attempted a coup d'état against state institutions, including the government and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. They attempted to seize control of several places in Ankara, Istanbul, Marmaris and elsewhere, such as the Asian side entrance of the Bosphorus Bridge, but failed to do so after forces loyal to the state defeated them. The Council cited an erosion of secularism, elimination of democratic rule, disregard for human rights, and Turkey's loss of credibility in the international arena as reasons for the coup. The government said the coup leaders were linked to the Gülen movement, which is designated as a terrorist organization by the Republic of Turkey and led by Fethullah Gülen, a Turkish businessman and scholar who lives in Pennsylvania. Açık Radyo (Open Radio 95.0) is an independent radio station broadcasting from Istanbul to metropolitan Istanbul and surrounding areas. The station's format includes news, music and talk radio. Structure Açık Radyo first began broadcasting November 13, 1995.
