Çankaya, Ankara (district)
Çankaya is a district of Ankara, Turkey. It is home to many government buildings, including the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, as well as nearly all foreign embassies to Turkey. Çankaya is a cosmopolitan district and considered the cultural and financial center of Ankara. Demographics The population of the central province is close to 1 million in 2016. History Until the founding of the Republic of Turkey in 1923, Çankaya was a hillside of orchards and gardens to the south of the city, which had grown up in time, surrounding the Ankara Castle (Kale) on the opposite hill. Everything changed in the 1920s when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk came to stay in one of the garden houses. Atatürk selected Ankara as capital of the new republic and in the 1920s and 30s the city quickly grew, especially in the direction of Çankaya. Kızılay, Ankara
Kızılay is a neighbourhood in Çankaya, Ankara, Turkey. It is named after the Kızılay Derneği (Turkish Red Crescent) whose headquarters used to be located at the Kızılay Square, its centre. Güvenpark in Kızılay has many trees and benches, while a metro station and a bus terminal nearby provide easy access to other parts of the city. On March 13, 2016, Kızılay suffered a terrorist bombing which killed 37 people and injured 125. The bombing took place on Atatürk Boulevard near Güvenpark. Atakule
Atakule is a 125 m (410 feet) high communications and observation tower located in the Çankaya district of central Ankara, Turkey, and is one of the primary landmarks of the city. As the district of Çankaya is itself on a hill, the tower can be spotted from almost anywhere in the city during clear days. The tower's design came from architect Ragıp Buluç and the construction works lasted from 1987 to 1989. The top section of the tower houses an open terrace and a revolving restaurant named Sevilla, which makes a 360 degree rotation in one hour. On top of Sevilla is another restaurant, Dome, which is non-revolving and located directly under the cupola. Under the terrace is a café, named UFO. The bottom structures house a shopping mall and several indoor and outdoor restaurants. The tower was opened on 13 October 1989 by President Turgut Özal. Çayyolu
Çayyolu is a suburb of Ankara, Turkey. Location and history Çayyolu at is situated to the west of Hacettepe University Beytepe campus, to the east of Ankara ring road and to the south of the Turkish state highway . Its distance to the Ankara centrum is about . The core of the suburb is a former village named ''Kutuğun'' situated almost at the center of the Çayyolu suburb. Ayrancı
Ayrancı is a town and district of Karaman Province in the Central Anatolia region of Turkey. According to 2000 census, population of the district is 13,212 of which 3,153 live in the town of Ayrancı. Ahmet Taner Kışlalı (10 July 1939 – 21 October 1999) was a Turkish intellectual, political scientist, lawyer, commentator/author for the ''Cumhuriyet'' newspaper, academics and politician. Biography He completed his primary and secondary education in Kilis, and graduated from "Kabataş Erkek Lisesi" high school in Istanbul in 1957. He received a degree from the School of Political Sciences at Ankara University, in 1963. During his college years, he also worked in the newspaper "''Yeni Gün''", published in Ankara.
