Åsvær Lighthouse
Åsvær Lighthouse ( no, Åsvær fyr) is a coastal lighthouse in Dønna Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located on the island of Åsvær, about north of the village of Vandve, about northwest of the island of Dønna (island), Dønna, and about south of the village of Lovund. The tall lighthouse was first built in 1876. The original lighthouse was replaced in 1919 after a tough winter storm. The new lighthouse was automated in 1980, and it was listed as a protected site in 2000. The lighthouse includes an tall red, cast iron tower. The light sits on top of the tower at an elevation of above sea level. The 28,800-candela light can be seen for up to . The light emits a white, red or green light depending on direction, occulting light, occulting in groups of two every eight seconds. Lighthouses In Norway
The coast of Norway is 100,915 km long and there have been a total of 212 lighthouses along it, but no more than 154 have ever been operational at the same time. The first, Lindesnes Lighthouse, opened in 1655; the newest Lighthouse, Anda, was finished in 1932. The first Lighthouses were private operations, but in 1821 the government made the Channel and Harbor Inspector responsible for Lighthouses in Norway. A dedicated Lighthouse Administration was set up in 1841. The Lighthouses are today mostly automated and since 1974, run by the Norwegian Coastal Administration. Two lightvessels had been operated along the Norwegian coast. "Enigheden" off Ålesund from 1856 vas replaced with Lepsøyrev Lighthouse in 1879, and "Ildjernsflu" moored off Nesodden from 1914 until it was scrapped in 1968. A light characteristic is all of the properties that make a particular navigational light identifiable. Graphical and textual descriptions of navigational light sequences and colours are displayed on nautical charts and in Light Lists with the chart symbol for a lighthouse, lightvessel, buoy or sea mark with a light on it. Different lights use different colours, frequencies and light patterns, so mariners can identify which light they are seeing. Lovund is an island and village in the municipality of Lurøy in Nordland county, Norway. The island is located west of the Solvær islands and southeast of the Træna islands. Lovund is notable for the large puffin breeding colony located on the rocky north slope of the island. Dønna (island)
Dønna is the largest island in Dønna Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The island lies off the west coast of the mainland of Helgeland, Norway. The islands of Løkta and Tomma lie northeast of the island, the islands of Vandve and Åsvær lie to the west, and the islands of Herøy and Alsta lie to the south. The island is the main island of the municipality where most of the municipal residents live. In 2017, there were about 1,235 residents on the island. The northern and central parts of the island are low and relatively flat, partly marshy which nice coastal beaches. The southern part of Dønna is mountainous with several steep and bare mountains.
