The Ã…lfotbreen glacier is located in Vestland county, Norway. The glacier is located on the border of three municipalities in the Nordfjord region: Bremanger, Kinn, and Gloppen. It is located west of the village of Hyen, south of the village of Ã…lfoten, and east of the village of Svelgen. The glacier reaches an elevation of at its highest point. The area surrounding the glacier, closer to the Nordfjorden, is one of the wettest places in Norway, getting an average of of rainfall each year. The heavy precipitation keeps the glacier very healthy with an average thickness of . On 9 January 2009, the area surrounding the glacier, the glacier itself, and the nearby Gjegnalundsbreen glacier, were preserved as a landscape protection area by the Norwegian government. Mass balance measurements have been performed at the glacier since 1963 by the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE). Bremanger
Bremanger is a municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village of Svelgen is the administrative centre of the municipality. Other villages include Bremanger, Berle, Davik, Isane, Kalvåg, Svelgen, Rugsund, and Ålfoten. Bremanger is the only municipality in Vestland, which is located in two districts. The northern and eastern parts comprising the villages of Oldeide, Berle, Rugsund, Davik, Isane, and Ålfoten is located in the Nordfjord region, while the villages of Bremanger, Kalvåg, Svelgen, Sørgulen, and Botnane are located in the Sunnfjord region. The Gjegnalundsbreen glacier is located in Vestland county, Norway. The glacier sits on the borders of the municipalities of Bremanger and Gloppen. Gloppen
Gloppen is a municipality in the county of Vestland, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Nordfjord. Gloppen is generally subdivided into three areas: Hyen in the west, Gloppen in the center, and Breim in the east. Each of the areas have their own main service centres. Sandane, the administrative centre of the municipality, is the largest with about 2,500 inhabitants. Sandane, Vereide, and Sørstranda are centered on the Gloppefjorden in Gloppen in the central part of the municipality. The villages of Byrkjelo, Re, Kandal, and Egge are centered on the lake Breimsvatnet in the Breim area in the east. Nordfjorden (Sogn Og Fjordane)
Nordfjorden is the sixth longest fjord in Norway. It flows through the municipalities of Stryn, Gloppen, Stad, Bremanger, and Kinn, and it is the central feature of the entire Nordfjord region which makes up the northern third of the county. The long fjord stretches from Husevågøy island in Kinn Municipality to the village of Loen in Stryn Municipality. The fjord starts as runoff from the Jostedalsbreen, Europe's largest mainland glacier, in the east and it flows west, emptying into the ocean just south of the Stadlandet peninsula. The mouth of the fjord lies between the large islands of Vågsøy and Bremangerlandet (with the smaller island of Husevågøy lying in the middle of the mouth). Svelgen is the administrative centre of Bremanger Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located at the eastern end of the Nordgulen fjord and at the mouth of the Svelgselva river. The Bortne Tunnel is located about north of the village, connecting it to the northern parts of the municipality. The village has a population (2018) of 1,207 and a population density of . Prior to 1912, the area had no name, other than calling it the end of the Nordgulen fjord or by some of the three local farms.
