Via Roma is an important street of Palermo. It represents one of the main axes of the historic centre and connect the Palermo Centrale railway station to the Teatro Politeama. Palermo Centrale is the main railway station of the Italian city of Palermo, capital of Sicily. It is one of the most important " FS" stations of Italy. Teatro Politeama, Palermo
The Politeama Theatre (Italian: Teatro Politeama, complete name Teatro Politeama Garibaldi) is a theatre of Palermo. It is located in the central Piazza Ruggero Settimo and represents the second most important theatre of the city after the Teatro Massimo. It houses the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana. History In 1864 the municipality of Palermo launched an international competition for the construction of a monumental opera house (the Teatro Massimo) and, a year later, an internal competition for the construction of a diurnal multi-purpose theatre (hence the name ''"Politeama"'' from the Greek language). The architectural project was assigned to Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda. The theatre would have to be built on the border of the monumental structure of Palermo, as an ideal point of reference of the city's expansion. Sant'Antonio Abate (Saint'Antony Abbot) is a Gothic-style Roman Catholic parish church located on Via Roma #203A in the ancient quarter of Castellammare, in central Palermo, region of Sicily, Italy. The church sits at the west corner of the Vucciria market. History A church at the site has been present since 1220. In that era, the building was adjacent to the medieval walls of the city and was near the confluence of two streams or rivers, the Kemonia and Papireto. The walls had tow towers, called ''Baych'' and ''Pharat'' built during the Muslim rule of Sicily as part of the walled defences of Palermo. There was a gate in the walls known as ''Bab al-bahr'' or ''sea gate'' in Arabic, because it led to the harbor.
