Galician Unity ( gl, Unidade Galega; UG) was a Galician nationalism, Galician nationalist and Social democracy, social democratic Political alliance, political coalition formed by the Galician Workers Party, Galician Socialist Party (1963), Galician Socialist Party, and the Partido Galeguista (1978), Galicianist Party in 1979. History The coalition aimed at promoting a degree of autonomy and self-governance of Galicia (Spain), Galicia from Spain equal to that of Catalonia and the Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country, other autonomous communities of Spain. The coalition also promoted the adoption of a statute of autonomy for Galicia (like the Statute of Autonomy of the Basque Country, 1978 Statute of Autonomy of the Basque Country and the Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia of 1979, 1979 Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia).
