Trimulcast
In broadcasting, a trimulcast is a cluster of three radio stations and/or translators that play the same feed. Normally this is done in order to have full coverage of a certain area. Some stations use this technique to provide rimshot coverage into a major market by broadcasting on the outskirts from three different locations, or combine multiple low power television stations in an attempt to provide the equivalent coverage of one full-power station. KBPI
KBPI (107.9 FM, "KBPI") is a commercial radio station licensed to Fort Collins, Colorado. It is owned by iHeartMedia and it broadcasts an Active rock radio format. KBPI's studios are located in Denver in the Tech Center. In December 2017, iHeartMedia assembled a trimulcast of KBPI along the Interstate 25 corridor on the 107.9 frequency, by moving KBPI's main signal to 107.9 in Fort Collins, as well as to translator station K300CP in Denver, and switching KDZA in Pueblo/Colorado Springs to a simulcast of KBPI. History KBPI started at 105.9 MHz in Denver on June 21, 1965. It had studios on the 20th floor of the Daniels & Fisher Tower in downtown Denver. KBPL
KBPL (107.9 FM, "107.9 KBPI") is a radio station licensed to Pueblo, Colorado, and serving the Colorado Springs/Pueblo radio market. Owned by iHeartMedia, it broadcasts an Active rock format. The transmitter is located on Cheyenne Mountain amid other TV and FM towers for stations in the Colorado Springs-Pueblo market. History The station first signed on as KRYT on March 3, 1987. It was the FM counterpart to AM 1350 KGHF (now KUBE). The call sign reflected the station nickname "K-Right," as 107.9 is at the far right end of the FM dial. Rimshot (broadcasting)
In radio and television broadcasting a rimshot is a station that attempts to reach a larger media market from a distant suburban, exurban, or even rural location. The term is primarily used with FM stations, and mainly in North America. The name derives not from the sound of a rimshot in music, but rather from basketball, where the ball hits the rim of the basket, and may or may not go in. Rimshot stations are often at a disadvantage compared to higher-strength signals in a market. Many rimshot operators attempt to serve the larger market with a signal that has deficiencies in the intended listening area, especially on the far side from where it is transmitted. Many (if not most) rimshot stations are "move-ins", having moved to about halfway between their city of license (which they are legally required to cover and serve) and the metro area which they actually care about. Based in Arlington, Virginia, Allbritton was the leading subsidiary of Perpetual Corporation, a private holding company owned by the family of company founder and former Riggs Bank president Joe L.
