The Hut-Sut Song
"The Hut-Sut Song (a Swedish Serenade)" is a novelty song from the 1940s with nonsense lyrics. The song was written in 1941 in music, 1941 by Leo V. Killion, Ted McMichael and Jack Owens (singer-songwriter), Jack Owens. The first and most popular recording was by Horace Heidt and His Musical Knights. A 1941 ''Time (magazine), Time'' magazine entry suggests the song was probably a creative adaptation of an unpublished Missouri River song called "Hot Shot Dawson". Lyrics The lyrics of the chorus are supposed to be a garbled rendition of a Swedish folk song. The chorus goes in part: :''Hut-Sut Rawlson on the rillerah and a brawla, brawla sooit.'' The song then purports to define some of the words, supposedly Swedish language, Swedish: "Rawlson" being a Swedish town, "rillerah" being a stream, "brawla" being the boy and girl, "hut-sut" being their dream and "sooit" being the schoolteacher. Horace Heidt
Horace Heidt (May 21, 1901 – December 1, 1986) was an American pianist, big band leader, and radio and television personality. His band, Horace Heidt and his Musical Knights, toured vaudeville and performed on radio and television during the 1930s and 1940s. Early years Born in Alameda, California, Heidt attended Culver Academies. At the University of California, Berkeley, he was a guard on the football team. A broken back suffered in a practice session caused him to give up football, leading him to turn his attention to music. He and some classmates formed a band, The Californians. Career From 1932 to 1953, he was one of the more popular radio bandleaders, heard on both NBC and CBS in a variety of different formats over the years. "Three Little Fishies", also known as "Three Little Fishes", is a 1939 song with words by Josephine Carringer and Bernice Idins and music by Saxie Dowell. The song tells the story of three fishes, who defy their mother's command of swimming only in a meadow, by swimming over a dam and on out to sea, where they encounter a shark, which the fish describe as a whale. They flee for their lives and return to the meadow in safety. The song was a US No. 1 hit for Kay Kyser and His Band in 1939. It was released in the UK as a 78 by British comedian Frankie Howerd, on the short-lived UK Harmony label, in 1949.
